Writing songs since he was a teenager, Dewey Andrew’s first world-wide release was in 2003 entitled “Rejoice.” It features the late Tonni “Funking For Jamaica” Smith and was remixed by Big Moses. “I also have the Main Pass version that was never released, recorded with my friend, the late George Mena. I intend to release it on my own label for the song’s 25th anniversary.”
Shortly after that release, Dewey was asked to write a song for House Music Legend SuSu Bobien. “Set Free” hit big and started a string of songs to follow, including the chart-topping “Wondrous.” These singles became staples in the House Music community, and SuSu performed them worldwide.
The year 2010 marked the launch of Dewey Andrew’s new entertainment company, “Diva Down Entertainment.” “I call my company Diva Down Entertainment because I don’t want to be limited creatively – whether it’s releasing original songs, promoting shows, writing plays – the name doesn’t put me in a box.”
The first release on the DDE label was “I Got My Pride.” It included a remix by Davidson Ospina, and features the anointed vocals of SuSu Bobien. “I Got My Pride” was performed live by SuSu at Manhattan’s popular Cielo Club for DDE’s release party, with legendary DJ’s Louie Vega and Kevin Hedge on deck (Roots). A new “Pride” mix has been created almost every other year since its initial 2011 release.
The second official release on DDE was in November of 2011, entitled “U-Turn.” This song was Dewey’s first collaboration with singer/songwriter BJ Nelson for their newly created writing and production company, DewBJoyful Productions. “U-Turn” features the powerhouse vocals of the Queen of Gospel Energy, Dawn Tallman.
Other writing highlights by Dewey include the late Grammy Nominee, Sharon Jones, of Dap Kings fame (“Move Ya”; “Suga’s Testimony”); Brenda Williams of Jones Girls fame (“What Your Love Has Done”); Inaya Day (“My Cry”); Sandy B (“Remember Me”); Angel Rose (“So Good to Me”); (“Till My Dyin’ Day”; “Lord Fix It”); Monica Hope (“Just Like Fire”; “Let The Music”; “I Can’t Tell It All”); Krystine Walker (“Come Home to Me”); Mitch Matlock (“No Apologies”); Karen Anderson (“Water Under The Bridge”) and Cinnamon Brown (“Searchin’”). Recently, his collaborations with BJ Nelson include songs recorded by R&B vocalist and Grammy Nominee, Will Downing (“I Hear A Voice”), and the renowned versatile vocalist Cindy Mizelle (“It’s Only For A Moment”).
“I’m forever grateful to be able to work with this caliber of artists. They are nothing short of amazing, both professionally and personally.”
